Is schooling required for everyone where you live?

And it is until we reach about 18, though you have to pass certain tests before being promoted to the next level.

At 18 we take university entrance exams, which determine if we can pursue higher education or not.

Like a lawyer or a doctor or a starving student in crippling debt.

Geez.... what's the point of that kind of schooling if you have to go into debt? That's backwards.

I guess I shouldn't say that, though. I don't know much about it.

The logic is that you pay a lot to go to school but you get a better-paying job than if you don't.
