[ even after the island, it's taken some getting used to being noticed. yin yu's used to being able to fade in and out of most situations, and the mess hall hasn't been much different. he takes his meals quietly, often on his own, observing the others, and leaves just as quietly, so when someone approaches him, it's a bit odd.
he's about to push his mask up off of his face to take a bite to eat of some of the (frankly strange) food, but pauses, when he's addressed. Ah... ] ....That's fine.
[ it gives him a moment to look this person over, size him up... ]

[ maybe. he's not entirely isolated; there's a few people he knows well enough, and others that he's kept close with, but. it's just a force of habit, at this point, to be solitary. he's been observing more than anything; though alone, he's not so shy as to run from a conversation. (admittedly, he's not taking his mask off, and also seems a little reticent to give his name, at first, but it just be like that sometimes.)
those profiles made it common enough knowledge... besides, he doesn't think anyone here has any sort of connection with any officials that could cause problems (namely, one martial god of the west) so. ] Yin Yu. Well met, Master Guy.
[ he gives a polite bow of his head. ]

[ oh... right, the tasks. yin yu has yet to chase after two of them: cleaning felt much, much easier than talking to people, and heavens forbid, dancing.
so, after a moment's pause, he nods. ] Very well. Ah.. my full title is the Xianxianyue Officer; I work in service of Hua Chengzhu, the Ghost King and master of the Ghost City. [ who he was with just moments before this entire fiasco. really.... it was more impressive than anything that whoever did this manage to snipe him away from hua cheng. he's probably replaceable and not worth razing an entire establishment to the ground. (maybe. who knows.) ] I help more or less with any matter he assigns me, though, it mostly tends to be maintaining the city and some semblance of order within it.
[ ghosts are rowdy. maybe that's enough... ] And yourself?

[ lol. ]
It seems our lords may have a bit in common. Hua Chengzhu is known most colloquially by the name 'Crimson Rain Sought Flower'.
[ and what a legend falls behind that name. it's enough to make just about any god in the heavenly realm shudder. (just about, anyway.) yin yu is no god in heaven, though. ] His title is quite literal; mine is not.
[ aka, no, he's not a ghost. his ghost faced mask is just that--a mask. ] I'm not sure that I've heard of such a place, though. [ he mouths the phrase to himself quietly under his breath. malkuth... ]

[ poor guy. though yin yu had not had many conversations with the person who had passed, he was not blind. master yu must have come from the same place as guy, and the empathetic part of him feels for his friend (?). he looks like a wreck, too, with all of those bruises.
they both look a little like a wreck, actually. yin yu's been mostly sticking to the shadows today, trying to avoid other people, so when guy spots him, it's a bit surprising, but... he nods when he sees him, ducking his head briefly to greet him with a bow. ] ...that would be very kind of you.
[ he waits for guy to head back to get tea before he actually walks over to where they were sitting, mostly because this damned effect has him walking backwards. moonwalking, actually. he hates it, don't worry. but! when guy returns, yin yu will be settled at the seat across from him, his mask still at the side of his face, but there to keep him company. ]

[ yin yu watches guy with quiet appreciation. he's not the tea pourer himself - chengzhu's other servants handle things like that - but nevertheless, he grew up with a similar art, and gives guy a small smile. ]
I've never had it. [ he mouths the word briefly, 'chamomile' to get used to it. ] ...thank you, Guy.

Mm, it's quite common--your technique was excellent. [ yin yu dips his head in acknowledgment as he takes the glass. ] But, this type is unfamiliar to me; green tears are our most common.
[ a quiet exhale. he's content just to sit with guy for a while if that's what he needs. his hands wrap around the warmth of the cup, letting it keep him steady, too. ]

[ hm... you know, guy had asked him a little about himself, but yin yu hadn't really had the chance to return much of the favor. he tilts his head, genuinely curious. ]
Your personal charge was different than... his grace? So, a king or an emperor of some kind?

I see... [ hmm. they really do have similar lives, don't they? though yin yu went from an emperor to a king, and nowadays, prefers one vastly to the other... it's all quite complicated, unfortunately.
he taps the edge of his cup. ] Fourteen years is some time. [ ....for a human being, anyway. ] Did you two grow together?

[ those damned cards...alright fine. ]
...It's been at least two centuries. I haven't really kept track. [ honestly, time didn't really matter that much once he started working for chengzhu. he had long since learned not to overthink the small blessings--he was quite lucky to still be alive, maybe. ] As for my lord's titles... he has many, so you may have to be more specific.
[ crimson rain sought flower??? ghost city master? "the scourge of heaven"? the ghost king? it goes on. ]
